Douglass Day is an annual program organized by Penn State University's Black Digital Research Center and it marks the birth of Frederick Douglass!
This year's work will center anti-racist activist and journalist Mary Ann Shadd Cary. To help resources become freely available for learning about Black history, during the transcribe-a-thon (an event in which people work together on a transcription project or typing written words), participants around the world will transcribe a large collection of digitized papers left by Mary Ann Shadd Cary. Over 7,000 people have already registered with the Black Digital Research Center to participate this year!
Shadd Cary is an iconic figure in Black women’s history. To learn more about her, visit: https://douglassday.org/shadd/
